To further the integration of new students into University student life, the Student Council of the University of Latvia and the UL Student Services calls for LU Mentoring Programme applications to encourage senior students to become companions for new students as they take their first steps into university life.

The main task of mentors is to maintain informal communication with the new student and help them navigate everyday academic matters and handle problematic situations throughout the academic year. Mentors introduce and show the most important aspects of University life – faculty premises, important regulations, LUIS and e-studies systems, and the student self-governance system. Most importantly, the student is introduced to an engaging study environment. Mentors will meet their first-year students already in the first days of studies.

Mentor status guarantees the opportunity to:

  • learn mentoring skills by helping up to five first-year students get involved in University life;
  • expand your social circle by connecting with students from other study years;
  • motivate new students to get involved in UL life and utilize the University’s support services;
  • assist newcomers in planning their careers and studies while developing your own time management skills.

In addition to the above, mentors also have the opportunity to:

  • obtain listener status for any UL study course worth 6 ECTS.

To apply to become a mentor for a first-year student, please fill out the form at mentors.lu.lv. If you have any questions, you can contact mentors@lusp.lv.
