The University of Latvia Student Council invites you to apply for the role of mentor in the new academic year. The aim of the program is to support first-year students in their first steps within the UL environment – both academically and socially, creating an inclusive and friendly university community.

To help first-year students start their studies more easily, the Mentor Program has been created! In this program, senior students become friendly guides and support persons who help their new colleagues navigate UL (University of Latvia) activities, explain the study process, and help them feel at home in the university community sooner.

As a mentor, you will:

  • help them understand the study process;
  • introduce them to the UL structure and opportunities;
  • ease their first steps in university life;
  • help them settle into the student community of your faculty and the entire university.

What does a mentor do? The mentor's task is to provide friendly, informal support throughout the academic year, becoming a reliable point of support during the first year. You will help them to:

  • navigate LUIS (the university information system) and the e-studies system;
  • understand the faculty premises, rules, and traditions;
  • learn about the opportunities offered by the Student Council;
  • discover the practical aspects necessary for a successful everyday life at UL.   And most importantly – you will be a friend they can turn to when everything seems unclear and they need someone to listen and help.

The first meeting between mentors and first-year students takes place at the very beginning of their studies, so you can start the exciting UL adventure together!

Additional benefits for the mentor: UL recognizes the mentor's work with specific academic benefits:

  • the opportunity to take the Part C course "Psychological Aspects of Peer Mentoring" (3 ECTS);
  • in the case of successful mentoring – the opportunity to receive auditor status for any UL course worth up to 6 ECTS.

To apply to become a mentor for a first-year student, we invite you to fill out the application form.
